It was my first time tasting 9 different types of cakes in one seating but don't worry, this is not a fattening cake buffet. It is the first-ever campaign presented by Anchor Food Professionals (AFP) & 9 local bakeries to bring you nine specially created tea-inspired cakes for your upcoming occasions!
Introducing 9 bakeries that have banded together to celebrate quality ingredients, premium New Zealand dairy and sweet treats! All specialty cakes featured are made with premium, New Zealand made Anchor butter and cream. The 9 participating bakeries range from heartland bakeries to artisanal shops. Any of these delicate tea flavours six-inch cakes would cost between $30 to $40.
In comparison with grain-fed cows, the cows in New Zealand graze outdoors all year round, producing superior milk with a fuller, creamier flavour and higher in beta-carotene and vitamins! Hence, the taste you get from using Anchor baking ingredients would assure premium taste!
Here's something worth checking out! To add on to the festivities, any specialty cake purchase will entitle you to a chance in winning a grand prize - a round-trip for four to New Zealand! The next lucky winner will win a round-trip for two to New Zealand. Both set of winners will also get to visit a Fonterra farm to experience how premium dairy ingredients are farmed! The campaign will run from 1 November to 31 December 2017 and here are the specialty cakes available for purchase:
Lavender Earl Grey by Swee Heng. (Key flavours: Earl Grey and Lavender)
This tasty creation is topped with a sweet layer of floral lavender flavour that awakes your senses. The milk chocolate and vanilla sponge is held together with earl-grey tea, lavender-infused cream frosting. There are also cocoa bits for addded crunch in each bite.
Marigold Secreto by Swissbake. (Key flavours: Mango, marigold, and chocolate)
This is unlike your ordinary chocolate cake. It is super thick and creamy, yet refreshing and leaves a light Alfonso mango fragrance that lingers in the back palate. The crisp sable base adds to the overall appeal.
Strawberry Rose Cake by Dora Keiki. (Key flavours: Rose, strawberry and white chocolate)
This cake is beautiful and taste lovely. Fragrant with rose tea, the tea-infused sponge cake incorporates real pureed strawberry bits and white chocolate frosting.
Osmanthus Onde Onde Cake by D'Pastriez by Bread Fresh. (Key flavours: Coconut and osmanthus)
This elegant and decadent cake adopts an interesting spin on local favourite onde onde, topped with refreshing osmanthus jelly and finished with roasted coconut sable. I simply adore the crusty and tasty base!
Rose Lychee Cake by Barcook (Key flavours: Rose, lychee, almond)
This cake combines delicate almond-flavoured sponge with white chocolate mousse, rose tea infused creme brulee and crisp sable for a party of textures.
Jasmine Tea Mousse Cake by Mugiya. (Key flavours: Jasmine, mango, passionfruit)
I was surprised by the layers of taste and textured hidden within this minimal looking classic cake. The complex flavours of this cake are derived from bittersweet chocolate sponge, jasmine tea-infused cream, sweet white chocolate-coated rice krispies and mango and passionfruit for a tart kick.
Apple Rose Cake by Bakery Cuisine. (Key flavours: Apple, rose, raspberry)
This unique shaped cake surprises with its varying textures. The first bite is met with crunchy, raspberry-soaked apple crisps in a rose-flavoured sponge layered with hidden soft cream frosting.
Gluten-free Orange Lavender Tea Cake by Baker & Cook. (Key flavours: Orange & lavender)
This cake is perfect for those who prefer something savoury. The crumbly texture reminds me of baked carrot cakes. This gluten-free option features a denser, orange and lavender tea-infused crumb complemented by layers of cream cheese and tart house-made marmalade.
Osmanthus Lychee Mousse by Rive Gauche. (Key flavours: Lychee and osmanthus)
This beautiful and golden cake is part jelly and part cake. This delicate dessert owes its fragrance to osmantus tea, with a hint of sweetness and crunch from lychee bits. However, it is too moist for my liking.
These limited edition cakes are available at respective bakeries.
